First edition. 8vo. This novelette originally appeared in Black Mask, Vol. XVIII, No. 9, November, 1935. Original color pictorial wrappers, 127 [1] pp., illustrated, double column. A well-preserved copy of this issue, featuring the first appearance of one of Chandler's most-anthologized stories. "Spanish Blood" is a hard-hitting story featuring Sam Delaguerra, a quick-tempered L.A. cop out to avenge the murder of an old friend. Seven murders in one story is a tall order, but Chandler pulls it off. This issue also includes includes "Winter Kill" by Fred Nebel, "Five Spot" by Theodore Tinsley, "G-Heat" by John K. Butler, W.D. Bray's "A Keg of Muscatel," and the Mystery Story Contest winner "The Affair of the Jealous Groom." A tiny chip to foot of spine, a few tiny nicks and closed tears to the front and rear cover fore-edges, and a small typed label of W. D. Bray affixed to lower right corner of the front cover, else a near fine bright and fresh copy. W. D. Bray is most likely contributor William Donald Bray, whose story "A Keg of Muscatel" appears in this issue Housed in a clamshell case with titles stamped in gilt on the spine.
