First edition thus. Originally published in 1744. 8vo. Pictorial wrappers, 32 pp., illustrated. When Pastor Friedrich Christian Lesser claimed that snails and shells are not spontaneously generted by slime on earth or water, that instead, they mate and lay eggs, he contradicted Aristotle and shook 18th century scientists to the core. To prove his assertion, Lesser described how shelled creatures mate and how they deposit their eggs. To disarm his censors, he wrapped each biology lesson in a sermon about the greatness of God. This booklet gives his research materials, his arguments, recipes with sources, as well as chapters on pearls. Translated from the German. As new, unread copy.
