Original Studio Photograph of Jesse James Children, Jesse, Jr. and Mary. Cabinet Card. Image: 4" x 5.5". Mount: 4.125" x 6.375". Jesse's children, Jesse Edward (age 6-7) and Mary Susan (age 2-3) are seated in chairs, dressed nicely and looking straight into the camera. Their father, Jesse James was murdered in his home by supposed friend, Bob Ford, on April 3, 1882. Printed along bottom portion of mount is: MARY. JESSE. Children Of Jesse James. Taylor Copying Company, St. Louis. Copyrighted 1882, by Mrs. Jesse W. James. Two 1" dark spots in upper portion of image, not affecting image of children. Also included is a later Photographic Postcard portrait image of Jesse James, Jr. at the age of 45-55, neatly dressed in a suit and tie. In 1899, Jesse James, Jr. authored an exceedingly rare book entitled: JESSE JAMES, MY FATHER, WRITTEN BY JESSE JAMES, JR. THE FIRST AND ONLY TRUE STORY OF HIS ADVENTURES EVER WRITTEN, published by The Sentinel Printing Co., Independence, Missouri. Provenance: Robert G. McCubbin Collection.
