Nicolas Point (1799-1868), a Jesuit followed his calling to be a missionary of American Indians. Later he became an influential Jesuit educator and was also one of the first white men to cross the continent by wagon to the Rocky Mountains. There he helped to establish missions in what are now Oregon and Montana. Point also had several excursions with the Indians and kept a carefully detailed account on their life-style and their relationship with the white man in the mid-nineteenth century.
