21 3/4" x 18 3/4" folio pictorial stiff wrappers, 30 pp. Contains Four full-page topography maps [Gallatin, Canyon, Shoshone, Lake] and four full-page aerial geology maps [Gallatin, Canyon, Shoshone, Lake] follows a seven-page introduction and three sheets containing eleven black and white captioned views of the Park. "The area covered by the maps of the Yellowstone National Park folio is represented upon four atlas sheets, known as the Gallatin Canyon, Lake, and Shoshone sheets, and is embraced between the parallels of 44 and 45 north latitudes and the meridians of110 and 111. it is situated in the northwest corner of the State of Wyoming, and includes, 3,412 square miles. In 1871 Dr. F. V. Hayden, a United States geologist, explored this region, at that time comparatively unknown, accompanied by a corps of skilled scientific assistants including geologists and topographical engineers. These explorations were eminently successful, and immediately attracted the attention of the world. It must always redound to the credit of Dr. Hayden that he appreciated the exceptional character of the region and the advisability of its forever being held intact by the General Government. He laid the matter before the Congress of the United States, and upon his earnest solicitation the Yellowstone National Park was established." The printed wrappers have a binder's tape spine as issued, which has some light wear and a few small nicks and extremities of wrappers are lightly edge-toned, else a very good copy.
