First edition. 8vo. Original pictorial red wrappers, 86 pp., frontis. [portrait], plate. An old-timer recalls his many hostile encounters with Mill Creek Indians in the Northern Sierra Mountains. The author came to California in 1857. He later became sheriff of Butte County, settled in the Sacramento Valley until 1865, engaging in various mining, gardening and cattle enterprises. Lightly rubbed at base of spine and light water staining to a few page edges, else very good copy. Housed in a clamshell box with leather label on spine. Very scarce.
