Publication: Sixletters dated between 1960 and 1979 in the Hy Gardner collection, 1967

Hy Gardner (1908-1989), syndicated columnist and Radio/TV interviewer, was a long time friend of Spillane, and played himself in THE GIRL HUNTERS. Mickey Spillane (1918-2006), created his hard-boiled detective hero, Mike Hammer in the first of many novels, I, THE JURY, in 1947. The versatile author who has been everything from a flight instructor to a human cannonball, also appeared in films, starring as Mike Hammer in THE GIRL HUNTERS. All of the letters are signed "Mickey," and one note as "M." The note on Spillane's personalized paper is accompanying a one-sheet broadside for his wife Sherri's new Las Vegas lounge act titled NOVELTEASE. The nude photograph of Sherri appears of her as that which was used for Spillane's novel THE ERECTION SET. The letters contain comments on Spillane's dislike of Los Angeles and the movie crowd, Sherri's publicity tours and appearances, how Sherri's nude appearance on THE ERECTION SET affected his reserved publisher, how New York City is changing, and much more. An interesting insight into the life of one of the better hard-boiled mystery writers, while in the prime of his career. Fine copies.
