The culmination of 50 years of study, George West's classic study is an extensive, comprehensive work and the definitive scholarly study. After donating his personal collection to the public museum, West traveled throughout North America and Europe studying the collections of most of the larger and many of the smaller museums on both continents, as well as many private collections. This exhaustive study was compiled and produced in 2 volumes. Part I, text and Part II, plates. Part I includes the complete "Contents" listing each of 257 plates, 17 figures, and 19 maps. Foreword. Acknowledgements. 19 maps. Bibliography. Index. The text of the study comprises pages 29 through 359. A very well organized and thorough study. Part II is comprised of 257 plates with an adjacent description. Tipped-in at the title page of each volume is a slip stating: "With The Compliments Of The Milwaukee Public Museum And Author" and signed by Geo. A. West. A very slight bit of rubbing to some edges, else fine, bright, and tight. An exceptional set of a landmark study that can never be superceded or surpassed. Only the second copy we've had the pleasure to offer!
