Publication: The Old Curiosity Shop carving, 1920, Seattle
A beautiful piece of Totem Pole carving from the early Pacific Northwest market. 22 ½ inches tall, and dates to the 1920’s. The Old Curiosity Shop was an important tourist -related company situated in Seattle, Washington during the 1920’s when there was a large interest in Tlingit and other Northwest Coast totem poles. Thus, to placate the growing tourist and collectors trade the Old Curiosity Shop hired Tlingit carvers to carve smaller totem poles to sell to the tourist. This particular pole shows stacked figural imagery consistent with Northwest Coast traditions. Very good.
