First edition. With the Adrian Goldstone bookplate on front pastedown sheet. Author's second mystery novel and the first to introduce Hildegarde Withers, the snoopy, old-maid sleuth and schoolteacher. Lightly sunned on the spine, else a near fine, clean, copy in a bright, unfaded dust jacket with professional restoration to the front cover near the spine fold and the other near the flap fold. Both repairs have been repaired on the verso and are virtually invisible. The very scarce first Hildegarde Withers mystery in which Hildegarde is escorting her class on a tour of an aquarium when she discovers a body amongst the penguins. This story was made into the 1932 RKO Radio film of the same name and starred Edna May Oliver as Hildegard Withers and James Gleason as Inspector Oscar Piper, An attractive copy of a Haycraft/Queen Cornerstone mystery novel.
