First edition. Three volumes. Handsomely bound in purple leather, titles and devices stamped in gilt on the spine, raised bands, all edges gilt, decorated front and rear endpapers, front and rear covers outlined in gold trim. The leather spines are lightly toned, and there is a bit of occasional foxing, but overall a fine set with interior pages clean and white. A Haycraft/Queen cornerstone, and described by T. S. Eliot as the first, the longest, and the best detective novel ever written. All three volumes are first printings and were bound with their half titles. An exceptional set.
