First Edition. Two Volumes. Panhandle-Plains Historical Review XXXIV & XXXV. Wrappers, 216 pp. & 217-368 pp. Appendix. Bibliography. Index. Large folding Map laid in and in fine, unused condition. Outstanding and well-edited compilation of military correspondence related to the U.S. Army campaigns and battles against the Comanche and Kiowa Indians in the Texas Panhandle region during the 1870's. Important source material relating much detail about the actions of Colonel Ranald S. MacKenzie, Colonel Nelson Miles, General Wm. T. Sherman, General John Pope, and Lt. General Phil Sheridan, as well as such notorious Indians as Satanta, Setank, Big Tree, etc. This important work precedes those of Ernest Wallace by several years. Usual light wear to oversized wrappers, else a fine set. The large folding map, found here in fine condition, is often missing due to being laid-in instead of being bound. Housed in an attractive clamshell case with titles stamped on the front cover and spine.
