First edition. Decorated cloth, 283 [2] pp., frontis, preface, illustrated. Recounts the story of the famous diamond hoax and swindle that netted the principals over $500,000 in the early 1870s. While recounting the diamond story, some of the author's experiences and reminiscences of California in the early days are also told. Former owner's bookplate on front pastedown sheet, and evidence of a small label removed from base of spine, else a very good copy. This copy from the library of W. J. Holliday, a noted Western Americana book collector.
