Briscoe consumed a lot of Irish Whiskey, which may be why we haven't heard much from him since Hamill, who now edits the New York Post and writes less violent fiction, hasn't produced another mystery since 1983. Inscribed by Hamill on the title page, "In writing this book, I did a lot of reporting on 47th Street, and learned a hell of a lot along the way. Diamonds are dangerous!"
