There are over 300 photographs and color plates. In this scarce and important work reproducing the ledger created by Cheyenne and Arapaho Scouts while serving with the U.S. Cavalry in Indian Territory. The drawings in the Pamplin ledger, one of the few surviving extant examples, portrays combat with enemy tribes, personal coups, other adventures of the Native American warriors, usually on horseback, war shields, clothing, weapons, and horse gear all carefully drawn.
