First edition. 5" x 7" original string-tied pictorial wrappers with an 1885 picture of Fort Davis on the front cover and a map of The Big Bend country on the rear cover, n. p. (80 pp.). illustrated with numerous sepia toned photogravures. An excellent guide book and early promotional of the Big Bend containing superb photogravures along with descriptive text. The views include the Gage Hotel, Fort Davis, Camp Marfa, Jones Ranch, Brite Ranch, Sul Ross State Teachers College, Rancho Valle la Cienega (the first dude ranch ever established in Texas), Fort Stockton, Mariscal Mine, Boquillas Hot Springs, Iron Mountain Ranch, Rubber Factory, Old Fort Pena, etc. A number of scenic views are present including Alpine scenery, Mitre Peak Park, the international bridge between Presidio, Texas and Ojinaga, Mexico, Rim Rock, Capote Falls, Kokernot Springs, etc. A fine, crisp, clean copy in the original mailing envelope. The mailing envelope is moderately worn. Overall a fine, unused copy of a scarce item.
