9 3/8" x 5 7/8" in original salmon printed wrappers. [1-3]4-24; 8 pp. Map. First edition of this promotional pamphlet about silver veins in the Comstock Lode of Nevada City in 1865, accompanied by civil engineer N. Wescoatt’s laid-in folding tissue map of the Gold Hill Front Lodes, which is very often lacking. This pamphlet was intended to tout the prospects at the Uncle Sam Senior and the Gold Canon silver mines, located within the limits of Gold Hill, Nevada. As a representative for the owners, Chapin wrote a very exuberant introduction. Dr. J.A. Veatch provided a technical description, detailing the potential for the property. The report states that these parts of the Comstock Lodes have been pronounced by the most scientific engineers and chemists in the country to be the most valuable ever discovered. The two lodes lay parallel to each other at a distance of one to two hundred feet, which greatly adds to the value of the property and facilitating easy and successful development. The report contains affirmations and statements from various persons as to the value of the two mines, as well as supporting affidavits from other mining experts. At the end of the pamphlet is the last-minute added report of New York mining engineers Adelberg and Raymond, whose unbiased support of mining projects was considered particularly valuable to prospectors. 14" x 22" map entitled, "Map of Gold Hill Front Lodes on the Comstock Range N.T. Surveyed July 1864 by N. Wescoatt, C.E. Located Sept & Oct. 1859. Made to accompany Report of Dr. J.A. Veatch." Not found in Howes or Graff. Wrappers lightly soiled and with light wear to the extremities along with 3" split to head and 2" split to toe of spine. Map has pinholes at a few folds else near fine.
