Publication: Printed for the author by Wilkinson Printing Co, n d 1908, N P DALLAS

First edition. Red cloth with steer head on cover plus stamping in black and words "Sixty Years in Texas," and spine stamped in gilt, original patterned front and rear endpapers, 322 pp., preface, frontispiece, (portrait), numerous illustrations from photographs and a few drawings, errata sheet bound in at the rear.

The author's family left England to join the Peters Colony in Texas. They arrived in 1848, when the author was 10 years old, and he remained in Dallas until his death in 1912. His mother and father were among the first settlers in Peters' Colony which extended from a point on the Red River to a point 100 miles south near Waxahachie and it included all of Dallas County. He reports on early settlers of Dallas, along with their hardships and trials. Also much on cattle ranching and his adventures mining for gold in Colorado. Herd 1141 says "Scarce." On the front pastedown sheet is a previous owners bookplate, also removal of a bookplate from front pastedown sheet, light wear to the spine ends and corners else a very good, tight copy. We believe this copy was formerly with Dorothy and Clinton Josey, and the removed bookplate belonged to them. Their familiar penciled inventory notations are present on the rear endpaper.
