First edition. 8vo. Light green cloth, titles stamped in black on the front cover and spine, vii [3], 182 pp. Based on the life of Sarah Jane Newman who came to Texas with Austin's colony, hauled cotton and supplies for the Confederacy, married 5 times, drove an ox cart between Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande. Novel based on the history of this pioneer Texas woman who became famous as a horse trader and cotton freighter in South Texas during the Civil War. She had a ranch in what was known as "Dark Corner" in Bee County. The author grew-up on a ranch in Zavala County, attended school at Carrizo Springs and married Scull's grandson. Former owner's inked name address, and telephone number on front, free fly leaf, light offsetting to the front endpapers, spine ends and corners lightly rubbed, else a near fine copy in a partial dust jacket. A scarce title and interesting read.
