First edition. 8vo. Cloth, titles stamped in brown on the spine, xi [blank], 331 [1] pp., frontispiece, preface, appendices, brief bibliography, index. Much on Custer, Sitting Bull, Sand Creek, The Black Hills, etc. Red Cloud stood out as one of the greatest of the Sioux leaders as evidenced by the years of heavy conflict, between 1865 and 1877. The destruction of Lieutenant Grattan and his men in 1854; the Fetterman disaster of 1866; and finally the Custer Fight on the Little Big Horn in 1876 reveals the real might of the Sioux. E. A. Brininstool's copy with his bookplate on the front pastedown sheet and his ownership stamp on the front free fly leaf where he has added the date of "Sept, 10, 1937." Brininstool has made a few penciled notations and a few corrections to the text else a fine, bright copy in a lightly used dust jacket with a small chip to the head of spine and a tiny nick to the foot of spine.
