7” x 10,” string-tied black card covers housing 34 pages with 35 black and white photographs inserted into corner mounts. Almost all photos measure 3 3/8” x 5 3/8.” This is an album depicting the Texas Firemen's Association parade held in Victoria, Texas. Planning began in January for the week-long event that was held in May, 1914. According to contemporary newspaper accounts, the parade contained more than 50 floats, taking an hour to pass at any given point. The first half of the album depicts floats, many showing deep crowds of people in attendance. The floats include Victoria's pride in its corn growing, swans and flowers, fancy cars dolled up and fire fighting apparatus. Many of the photos show African American men leading the mules that pulled the floats. The parade ended at the Victoria courthouse where the coronation processional immediately began. Half the album is devoted to the processional with images of children dressed as butterflies, ears of corn, faeries, and various insects as they walked to the stage awaiting the final ceremony. Two images of a giant pig costume manned by two people round out the group. Album with a vertical crease through the front cover. Some photographs with light creases but overall very good.
