Other works by CAPT ROBERT G. CARTER

Publication: Eynon Printing Company, Inc, 1935, Washington

First Edition. Thick 8vo. Original gilt-stamped Red Cloth, xviii, 542 pp., Frontispiece of Col. Ranald Mackenzie, Preface, Introduction, Plates, Portraits. A first-hand narrative of Indian fighting on the Texas frontier....a record of the highest importance. "This is one of the best sources on the Federal cavalry campaigns against the Indians in the 1870's."---John H, Jenkins. "The most complete account of the Indian wars of the Texas frontier in the seventies."---Jeff Dykes. John M. Carroll wrote that "Carter's enormously important writings on frontier military history will be recognized as source material for all future historians." "A splendid contribution to the early frontier history of west Texas.... It is a story filled with humor and pathos, tragedies and triumphs, hunger and thirst, war and adventure."---L.F. Sheffy. About Capt. Carter, an old pioneer, Frank Tankersley once said, "He'll follow their trail to the jumpin' off place, and when he comes up with 'em and gets through with 'em, the ground will be tore up, the bushes bit off, an' blood, hair, livers, and lights will be scattered all round." A great record of Texas Indian fighting. Best of the West 246 says "One of the great rarities of Western Americana printed in the 20th Century, issued in a small edition by an obscure Washington publisher in the midst of the Great Depression. He died the year after the book's publication, and the unsold edition may have been disposed of by the publisher." Some very slight sunning to spine, else an exceptionally clean, fine, bright copy of this Indian Wars rarity. Protected in a slipcase. In addition, laid-in is a signed letter by Mackenzie, in his hurried hand, dealing with land jointly owned by Mackenzie and Mr. Albee, sent from Fort Garland, dated Dec. 28th [1879 or 1880], while in command of the 4th U.S. Cavalry, preparing to lead the Ute Expedition. A true cornerstone for any Texas Indian Wars collection!
