An interesting narrative of Army life on the Plains, with much emphasis on the Fetterman Massacre of December, 1866 in which 81 men were killed by Sioux warriors. General Henry Carrington was in command when the massacre occurred. Frances Carrington's first husband, Lt. George Grummond was killed in the massacre. She married General Carrington in 1871, after the death of his first wife. Much information about early military and civilian life in Wyoming. Very good, with some minor edgewear and some soiling to rear panel.
