First Edition. Disbound. 308pp. Two Large Folding Maps. 51st Congress, 1st Session. Senate. Ex. Doc. No.51. An extensive and important record of reports, dialogue, statistical data, etc. The important maps are: Map Of Cheyenne River Agency-- 23" x 15" and Map Showing Lower Brule Agency, South Dakota -- 21" x 15." Both show Roads, Rivers, Dwellings, Agency buildings, schools, etc. Report and Council proceedings of the Sioux Commission sent to obtain consent from the Indians for a division and reduction of the Great Sioux Reservation. All of the councils, discussions, participants, translators, are recorded here. The Commission consisted of Charles Foster of Ohio, William Warner of Missouri, and General George Crook of the United States Army. They were sent to present to the Sioux Indians occupying the Great Sioux Reservation a plan for dividing and reducing the Reservation, requiring the signatures of 3/4ths of the adult males to validate the new terms. All of the discussions, concerns, obstacles, solutions, and the outcome of the "negotiations" are given in full in this very scarce volume. Upper fore-corner missing from first 10 pages and next 10 pages bumped, else text block is near fine. Maps are both in Fine condition.
