First edition. 8vo. Senate Executive Document No. 143, 49th Congress, 1st Session, May 17, 1886. Hardcover binder with titles stamped in gold gilt on the front cover, 20 pp., 4 folding maps at the rear. An uncertainty exists as to the location of the frontier line between Alaska and British Columbia, as defined by the treaty of cession with Russia of March 30, 1867. Due to the importance of the subject, the president requests that a provision be made by law for a preliminary survey of the boundary line in question by the U. S., in order that the information necessary for the basis of a treaty between the U. S. and Great Britain may be obtained. A sum of $100,000 is appropriated for the expenses of making the survey. The four maps are: MAP 1: 30" x 37" color map of Alaska and adjoining Territory which includes Eastern Siberia and the Aleutian Islands; MAP 2: 24"x 19" black and white chart showing part of the coast of N. W. America; MAP 3: 11" x 7" tinted map of the Portland Canal and the Observatory Inlet; and MAP 4: is a 22" x 23" black and white map of Revilla Gigedo Channel in south east Alaska. All four maps are in fine, unused condition. A fine copy.
