New York: May 19, 1850. Single page [9.5 cm x12 cm] / [3.75" x 5"] Manuscript letter presumably a response to an autograph collector. The letter "Dear Sir, I Take pleasure in complying with your request. Respectfully yours, J.C. Fremont. New York, 19th May [18]50." Included are two pictures of Fremont one as Major General and the other as The explorer of the Rocky Mountains. John Charles Fremont (1813-1890), was an American military officer and one of the great American explorers. Fremont mapped most of the Oregon Trail and during the 1840s, that era's penny press accorded Frémont the epithet. 'The Pathfinder.' Fremont was also the first to run for President as a Republican candidate.
