Original dark brown cloth covers blind stamped, viii - 591 pp. plus 6 pp. of advertisements, frontispiece (The Alamo), preface, illustrated, portraits, large color folding map, advertisements. The color folding map is titled "New Map of the State of Texas As It Is 1874, Prepared Expressly For Morphis', History of Texas .... G. W. & C. B. Colton." The map is 48 x 66cm [19" x 26"], with an ornate vine border; insets of the Panhandle, Matagorda Bay, Texas in 1835, Galveston Bay, Sabine Lake, etc. Raines' Bibliography of Texas says: "One of the most difficult nineteenth century books to obtain in collector's condition and with the Colton map." Light wear to head of spine, else a very good, tight and internally clean copy of a difficult title.
