Publication: D Appleton and Company, 1879, New York
First edition. 8vo. Original cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine, tan front and rear endpapers, 274 pp., plus 6 pages of advertisements, preface, index. Stories of his career in Virginia while serving with Lee and Stonewall Jackson. Also tells of the Trans-Mississippi and the Red River campaigns and life after the war during reconstruction. This book is regarded as the finest of Confederate memoirs. Richard Taylor was a Lt. General in the CSA, the son of Zachary Taylor, and the book is regarded as being especially good for his observations of Stonewall Jackson. Some cosmetic touch up to the spine ends and corners, a small old water stain primarily to the edges of the front and rear endpapers, else a very good serviceable copy.
