First edition thus. The pop-ups are in perfect working order. Manufactured in Czechoslovakia under the direction of Kubasta, one of the greatest of 20th-century artists of the moveable book [nowadays known as "paper engineers"], this is one of his most impressive creations. The book is a 8" x 10 1/4" cloth-top-hinged cardboard folder, resembling a game board in construction, illustrated front and back with Kubasta's colorful drawings of Cinderella and the Fairy God-Mother on the front cover, and a five doves each holding a ribbon attached to a red pillow with a pair of white slippers resting on the pillow. The front illustration has moveable parts. There are sixteen pages, each complete with a pop-up pertaining to the story or a moveable tab to animate a portion of the story. Eight intricately designed, full-color pop-ups of portions of the fairy tale. In design, construction & illustation, this is one of the most impressive pop-ups since Meggendorffer. We feel items like this are scarce. Fine, bright copy.
