First edition. 8vo. From the library of Everett D. Graff with his small bookplate at top edge of front pastedown sheet. Graff was a rare book collector, oilman, and bibliophile, best known for assembling one of the most important private collections on the history of the American West. Light blue cloth, titles in black on the front cover, 164 pp., foreword. Information on Cherokee history and origins, an 1819 account of overland travel on the Natchez Trail to Arkansas in order to establish a mission, and details of the dangerous incidents along the route. Also the war with the Osages, Osage captives, Cherokee superstitions, Indian doctors, a chapter on Sam Houston, Texas Cherokees, the removal of Cherokees from Texas and the ensuing fight. This book is one of the earliest focused histories of the "Old Settler" Cherokee, covering the period before the Trail of Tears.

Covers lightly soiled, a tiny "ding" to the bottom of page 109 to page 130 else a clean and tight very good copy. This is the first and only copy of this title that we have handled.
