And one each from Springville, Arizona, Weatherford and Colorado City, Texas, and one from Los Angeles, California. A fine copy and extremely rare. Not in Adams' Herd. Perhaps the earliest of New Mexico Brand Books. Accompanying this brand book is a one-page registration in Socorro County, New Mexico of the official cattle brand and ear marks of Jonathan H. Holmes and Charles H. Gifford, dated Nov. 24, 1885. The registration bears a drawing of the brand and ear marks, the signature of the clerk and recorder of the county, plus the raised seal. The brand is a curious one of a whale. Were the owners possibly from an east coast whaling town? Both the brand book and the registration could be considered rare to exceedingly rare.
