Publication: Milton Bradley Company, nd (circa 1900), Springfield

9" x 6" very colorful pictorial wrapper. 20pp. include wrappers. Numerous illustrations. Inside front wrapper discusses the Milton Bradley Company and how their products are used throughout the world wherever child education is based on the kindergarten method of Froebel, a German educationalist who maintained children became educated through their early creative play. Milton Bradley, lithographer and inventor, formed the Milton Bradley Company in 1860 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Milton focused his company toward education after hearing the philosophy of Froebel. "....Milton began producing “gifts,” geometric wooden playthings. He also carefully chose six specifically hued pigments (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet) to produce colored papers and paints. These colors remained the standard for the next century and a half." Black and white illustrations show each plaything, the part number for ordering, the price and a detailed description of the plaything. Some of the playthings shown are Playtime Peg Building Blocks; Playtime Design Blocks; Playtime Animal and Alphabet Blocks; Crayons and Stencils; Domestic Animal Puzzles; Playtime Scroll Puzzle Clock Dial; Bradley Toy Animals and many more. Most of the pages have a small inset describing the items and the advantages to your child and what they will learn by playing with them. Checkmarks and initials here and there, in ink, throughout the pamphlet along with a small message that someone had written under one of the items not interfering with any of the text, foxing to both wrappers and a crease at the bottom fore-corner of the front wrapper, along with 1" split to toe of spine, else a very nice and interesting booklet.
