After the war, Mackenzie turned his focus to the Western frontier, where he played a central role in the Indian Wars. His campaigns against the Comanche, Kiowa, and other Plains tribes, especially the decisive Battle of Palo Duro Canyon, were instrumental in ending organized Native American resistance in Texas and the surrounding territories.
