A well-worn, leather, "IKE" style jacket belonging to the famous actor and World War II war hero. Used in "The Duel at Silver Creek" and several other projects and publicity shoots. The jacket has a label sewn inside with "Audie Murphy" typed. It is missing the silver buttons seen in the movie and has a small tear to the back side of one shoulder. Complete with a Certificate of Authenticity dated 4/6/09, notarized and signed by the Vice President of Eastern Costume Company, with a complete description of the jacket and verifying its use in the movie. The movie was directed by Don Siegel and co-written by Gerald Drayson Adams and Joseph Hoffman. It stars Audie Murphy, Stephen McNally, Faith Domergue, Susan Cabot and Lee Marvin (in his first big screen movie appearance). It's a Technicolor production with the locations for the shoot spread over four California locations; Ranches Ray Corrigan, Janss Conejo, Iverson and at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park. The plot for the movie involves a gang of crooks who are murdering miners for their gold claims. Luke Cromwell (Murphy) loses his father to the gang and quickly reinvents himself as a gambling gunslinger known as The Silver Kid. Down in Silver City, Marshal Lightning Tyrone (McNally) is determined to bring to justice the claim jumping murderers. But he has a problem, his trigger finger is inoperative after he was shot, thus he can't let the bad guys know he is no longer "Lightning" on the trigger. After witnessing some of The Silver Kid's handy work, Tyrone hires him as a deputy to watch his back as he sets about weeding out the bad in Silver City. Luke is only too happy to help, he wants vengeance for his father's murder. Audie Murphy was a war hero who served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany during World War II. Audie Murphy was a Texas boy who became America's most decorated soldier of World War II, having received twenty-one medals, including our highest award, the Medal of Honor. "Part of Murphy's appeal to many people was that he didn't fit the "image" most had of a war hero. He was a slight, almost fragile-looking, shy and soft-spoken young man, whose boyish appearance often shocked people when they found out that, for example, during one battle he leaped on top of a burning tank--which was loaded with fuel and ammunition and could have exploded at any second--and used its machine gun to hold off waves of attacking German troops, killing dozens of them and saving his own unit from certain destruction and the entire line from being overrun. In September 1945 Murphy was released from active duty, promoted to 1st Lieutenant, and assigned to inactive status. His story caught the interest of superstar James Cagney, who invited Murphy to Hollywood." And so began his acting career. The leather jacket is in very good condition and is an excellent piece of memorabilia of a war hero turned actor. He died in 1971, at the age of 46 in the crash of a private plane near Roanoke, Virginia. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
