The author states that he is relating the stories as told to him by around 1900 by his uncle who, as a boy, accompanied his father on three buffalo hunting trips to Kansas. No dates are given but he tells us that his father was born in 1831, and he went on these trips while in his twenties, so the hunting trips must have occurred in the 1850s or early 1860s. Along with accounts of buffalo hunting is an account of a skirmish with Indians. Prior to the skirmish, the Indians had told the hunting party that they were killing too many buffaloes and it would harm there need to survive as they depended heavily on the buffalo as a primary source for survival. A few days later the Indians returned in an attempt to stop the hunting party's slaughter of the buffalo.

This is a very rare item as the author states in the foreword that only a few copies were produced to pass along to family and friends. This is the first copy we have handled.or seen. Fine bright copy.
