Publication: Elam & Dooley, Printers, 1895, Charlotte

First edition. 16mo. Original pictorial wrappers, 32 pp., illustrated. George was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1884 and sentenced to be hanged, but then Governor Ireland later commuted it to life. He was eventually exonerated and fully pardoned by Governor Sul Ross when a fellow prisoner confessed to the murder. Upon his release George wrote this book in order to keep young boys from a similar fate. Six Guns 823 says, "The author mentions John Wesley Hardin, who was in prison with him." Moderate wear to the spine panel, covers lightly soiled, first two pages top corner edges torn, else a good copy of a scarce item.
