Other works by ERWIN E. SMITH

Publication: Photographed by Erwin E Smith, 1908, Bonham, Texas

A 12" x 16 1/4" photograph by Erwin E. Smith (1886-1947) of a cowboy on horseback driving a group of packhorses. Smith is often referred to as one of the greatest photographers of cowboy life. Through the years he created engaging and action-filled images of cowboys and ranch life. According to the Amon Carter Collection database this photograph depicts "A Matador 'stray man' with packhorses and string taking a rough trail to the Spur Range to claim any stray mavericks belonging to the Matador outfits, Matador Ranch, Texas." Stamped on the verso of the photograph are the words "Copyright Erwin E. Smith, Bonham, Texas." A nice image with good contrasts and in fine condition. Also included is a fine, first edition copy of COWBOY WITH A CAMERA, ERWIN E. SMITH, COWBOY PHOTOGRAPHER, by Don Worcester. This photograph was chosen by The Amon Carter Museum as one of the images selected to appear in the book (page 25).
