Publication: Published under the auspices and encouragement of The Pittsburgh of Trade, 1907, Pittsburgh

First edition. Oblong 8vo 8" x 11 1/4" original front cover, decorative raised gilt lettering with a photograph of East End street scene mounted on a recent cloth binding, beautifully illustrated title page, n. p. (130 pp.), triple column, illustrated from photographs, portraits. First edition of this very scarce original land promotion touting the amenities and advantages of Pittsburgh's historic East End District, which included Point Breeze, Highland Park, and Squirrel Hill, at the time one of the country's richest suburbs whose inhabitants controlled 40% of the U.S. commercial assets. Residents and their palatial suburban houses included Carnegie, Frick, H.J. Heinz, George Westinghouse, Richard & Andrew Mellon, Alfred Hunt (ALCOA), Robert Pitcairn (Pittsburgh Plate Glass), Charles Lockhart of Rockefeller's Standard Oil, along with many others. Pittsburgh's first automobile, a Packard Tonneau, was owned by East End resident Howard C. Heinz, son of Henry, and the area included by 1906, twelve automobile dealerships, including two devoted to selling electric cars. This work illustrates the leading hotels, available real estate, railway stations, factories, businesses, and more. The recent binding is new and tight with the original front cover mounted to it, the front and rear endpapers have been replaced, the entire interior is clean and sound with only a few tiny corner creases (that have been straightened), and a few lightly soiled pages, else a very good copy of an interesting and revealing book about "Pittsburgh's East End, the world's most beautiful suburb."
