Publication: 1982
Measures 7" x 9," dated September 4, 1982, and typed on author's printed letterhead. MacDonald frankly expresses to a Mr. Keane, his anger at how he is treated by some book reviewers. "The Schwartz review seems to me to be fairly typical of the patronizing academic who would far prefer the elegant and obscure masturbations of Brecht and Pynchon and more recently John Irving. But what the hell- I enjoy entertaining the people [and myself] and that is what I try to do. One cannot feel abused when the review tries to compare fried grits with hummingbird tongues." MacDonald is the author of the very popular Travis McGee detective series. An excellent letter of some 115 words, signed in full. Near fine.
