Vintage 8" x 10" publicity photographs of Ken Maynard rearing his horse Tarzan by photographer Ray Jones. On verso of the photographs is a stamp crediting Jones as the photographer, a mimeo snipe, and a studio stamp crediting photographer Jones obscured by a small piece of tape. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones, who was born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901. Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and went on to become the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935. He remained employed there until well into the 1950s. Cowboy superstar Ken Maynard (1895-1973) began as a champion rodeo star as well as a trick rider with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and the Ringling Brothers Circus, before beginning his acting career, as well as an occasional screenwriter, producer, and director. He was mostly active from the 1920s to the 1940s and considered one of the biggest Western stars in Hollywood. His movie debut "The Man Who Won" (1923) was the first of many for this cowboy movie superstar. He starred in nearly 100 films from 1923 to 1972, nearly all westerns, in a career that lasted nearly 50 years. Light edgewear and small shipping to the margins, else very good plus.
