First Printing. Printed Self-Wrappers. Folio. 8pp. This treaty was made on the Council Grounds on the Little Arkansas River in the state of Kansas in October 1865. The treaty was negotiated by Kit Carson, William Bent, William S. Harney, John S. Sanborn, James Steele, Thomas Murphy, and J. H. Leavenworth, as Commissioners for the United States. It provided for the possession by the Comanches and Kiowas a vast reservation in Texas, granting them practically all of the Texas Panhandle. Signing for the many various bands of Comanches were chiefs Rising Sun, Female Infant, Milky Way, Eagle Drinking, Horse's Back, Buffalo Hump, Over The Buttes,Ten Bears, Iron Mountain, Iron Shirt, and Silver Brooch. Signing for the Kiowas were Lone Wolf, Black Eagle, Big Bow, White Bear, Kicking Eagle, Bear Runs Over A Man, Plumed Lance, Little Mountain, Sitting Bear, Poor Man, and Stinking Saddle Cloth. Like most, the treaty didn't last long as hostile incursions by the Comanches and Kiowas continued throughout much of the settled portions of Texas, as well as continuing raids through Texas into Mexico. One inch split at base of spine, else a fine copy.
