Publication: Knopf, 1961, New York

First edition. Presentation inscription dated May 1961, the month and year of publication, "For the Marshall McLuhans who have been so kind to these Archer books, and to their author, with love and a transcontinental hail! Ken." McLuhan and MacDonald were long-time friends by virtue of their common Canadian heritage, and their mutual respect for each other's intellect. Fine in dust jacket lightly soiled on the rear panel and with some very minor restoration to the spine ends and corners. Archer is hired to find a young girl who has been missing for two months. Before he's able to find the girl, Archer must deal with her mother, an eerily unmaternal woman who keeps too many residences, has too many secrets, and leaves too many corpses in her wake.
