First edition. Small little red bookplate from the Kaye collection is on the front pastedown sheet covered by the flap, along with an inked notation stating that this copy is a first edition. Fine tight copy in dust jacket that has light professional restoration to the spine ends, corners and extremities. A suspense novel that inspired Michael Curtiz's 1947 film noir using the same title. The Dark Page I says: "It was a controversial book, praised by many critics, including Howard Haycraft, but was criticized because of her disclosure of the murderer's identity almost at the outset -- a technique that one day would be seen as groundbreaking. (Penzler)" A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone title and an exceedingly scarce book considering its relatively recent vintage.
