Other works by JOHN POE

Publication: E A Brininstool, 1922, Los Angeles

First Seperate Printing. Printed Grey Wrappers. 30pp. Foreword. Limited to 55 copies. This rare account is the first separate printing of this first-hand account by Deputy John Poe of the killing of Billy The Kid by Sheriff Pat Garrett. It first appeared in Wide World Magazine, London, 1919. Attesting to the printing quantity is the following by Collector and Billy The Kid expert, Robert G. McCubbin: "I have seen three copies of this first printing of the booklet. One (which is in my library) is Brininstool's personal copy #1 in which he has written in his hand, 'I set the type and printed this little pamphlet on a Kelsey "Excelsior" hand press, in 1922. Only 50 copies were printed by me and this is the only one I know of unsold. E. A. Brininstool.' Another copy in my library has the following in Brininstool's hand, 'But 55 copies of this pamphlet were printed. E. A. Brininstool.' These two copies plus this one are the only copies of this booklet I have seen or seen listed for sale. It is exceedingly rare and I have concluded that most certainly only 55 copies were printed, as stated by the printer. One of the most important Billy The Kid books."--Bob McCubbin. Some very light edgewear. Near Fine. Signed presentation from Brininstool on front free-endpaper. Additional unsigned note in Brininstool's hand, laid-in: "How is this for a "bum printer"? I set it all up, printed and bound it in my little press." Protected in a custom folding case, with title, author, place, and year of publication in gilt on leather label on spine.
