First edition. 8vo. Printed wrappers, 30 pp.,Johnston in his speech essentially takes exception to the Texas Pacific Railroad Company's plans for financing their proposed expansion of a single line railway from Fort Worth in Texas, by way of Fort Yuma, on the Colorado River, to San Diego, a distance of about fourteen hundred miles. Johnston has several concerns that he voices: the U. S. is to act as the Texas Pacific's land agent, the government is in line to take the risks and the Railroad company takes all profits, and the interests of the South and its citizens are not being properly served. He is further concerned that the objective of connecting the entire U. S. by railroad from coast to coast is not being properly followed. Spine panel reinforced, a corner chip to the bottom front cover, and light wear to the cover extremities, else a very good copy.
