White lettering rubbed from the spine, as is common, with the white lettering on the front cover panel. In fine, bright condition with the red tumb print [said to be the author's own] on the front cover bright and colorful. First Dr. Thorndyke and one of the most important mysteries ever written. Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone title and described by Haycraft as "one of the undisputed milestones of the genre." Housed in a black cloth slipcase with red leather spine labels and titles stamped in gilt.
