Bill Cary flies surveys for mineral companies and pilots hunters around the remote forests of Lapland. Late in the summer, a wealthy American hunter hires him to fly into a prohibited part of Finland near the Soviet border in order to hunt bear. Subsequently, finds himself caught up in events beyond him. As things escalate, and he finds himself suspected of smuggling, assaulted and his fellow pilots being killed, he begins to untangle the events and finds the link to an event his wartime past. Now he simply needs to survive the consequences.
