First edition. Rivers of America series. 8vo. Blue cloth, decorated endpapers, titles stamped in gold on spine, xii, 276 pp., illustrated, map, foreword, bibliography, index. Illustrated by Thoreau Mac Donald. Fine in price-clipped dust jacket lightly sunned on the spine. An interesting account of the history of this great river of the northwestern Canadian wilderness. The Mackenzie flows north from the Great Slave Lake to millions of square miles of the Canadian Northwest Territories stretching more than twelve hundred miles to the Beaufort Sea. The battle between fur barons was fought on tthe Mackenzie as was the battle between Canada and the Hudson's Bay Company. When gold was discovered, the Mackenzie took on the aspects of a mineralogist's heaven, followed by the discovery of pitchblende ... the source of U-235 for the atom bomb. A fine, bright copy. Dust jacket is lightly rubbed, else fine.
