Six Guns 469 says "Gives a full account of the hanging of Joseph Slade by the vigilantes." The book follows Slade's rise from an employee of the Overland Stage Company, celebrating his fearlessness and determination and protecting stage routes from bandits. Unfortunately, Slade's growing reputation for violence, fueled by alcoholism and an explosive temper, gradually transformed him from a respected lawman into a feared and unpredictable figure involved in gunfights, personal vendettas, and conflicts with outlaws and vigilantes. Upon Slade’s arrival in Virginia City, Montana Territory, his increasingly erratic behavior led local vigilantes to seize and hang him in 1864 without a trial. Very good copy.
