History of the slaughter of the bison with much of the book devoted to the hide hunters, their trade and their fights with Indians. Although the book records protests against the slaughter, the author also points out that the killing helped to reduce the hostile Indians to submission and to clear Western ranges for the cattle and sheep industries.
